8 Woodbridge Schools Recognized For Student Growth
These schools serve populations of students that tend to be underprivileged.

Teachers and administrators at 13 schools in the county, including eight schools in the Woodbridge area, are being rewarded for their hard work in boosting student academic growth, even among needier student populations. Many of the students at these schools are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
The county has awarded these teachers and administrators Teacher Incentive Performance Awards for their teaching, their cultivation of a healthy academic environment, and their students' achievements. The TIPA program helps target the achievement gap seen on Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) tests.
“We focus on student learning and all the components that make up an effective school. Through the targeted professional development and coaching support that are provided by our TIPA staff, we are able to respond quickly to the needs of each school, based on real-time data,” said PWCS TIPA Project Director Natalie Bonshire. “The schools that receive the TIPA award are making measureable progress in the academic growth of all of their students.”
The county recognized teachers at these Woodbridge area schools:
Bel Air Elementary
Dale City Elementary
Fitzgerald Elementary
Kerrydale Elementary
King Elementary
Marumsco Hills Elementary
Minnieville Elementary
Vaughan Elementary
The county found 30 schools to be TIPA-eligible, and narrowed that list to 13 by looking at 23 different factors. The criteria include attendance, student and parent satisfaction, and student growth, with the greatest significance given to student growth.
“It is a privilege to provide support to the hard-working, dedicated teachers and administrators who work in our TIPA schools, and especially to see the great progress their students are making," Bonshire said.
