Harris Teeter, Target, Walmart, Aldi: 2024 Labor Day Store Hours In VA

VIRGINIA — Labor Day is Monday, giving many of us a day off work, and one last long summer weekend in which to celebrate American workers at gatherings or barbecues.

Most retailers and grocery stores like Trader Joe’s, Target and Harris Teeter have what you need for any kind of event — but what happens when Labor Day comes and something is missing from your end-of-summer bash?

It's almost a guarantee you'll run short on condiments, paper plates, charcoal, or drinks on Monday, Sept. 2, the official Labor Day holiday. Fortunately for last-minute shoppers, the majority of retailers and grocery stores in Virginia will still be open for that last-minute assist.

Grocery Stores

Most chain grocery stores will be open on Labor Day, but there’s at least one that won’t. Store holiday hours are subject to change, so call ahead before heading there.

Chains holiday hours are:

• Albertsons: In most locations open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• ALDI: Most locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Costco: Closed on the holiday
• Food Lion: In most locations open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Giant Food: Open regular hours, but pharmacies at some locations may have modified hours.
• Harris Teeter: In most locations open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Kroger: In most locations open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Lidl: In most locations open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Safeway: In most locations open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Sam’s Club: Clubs will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for members and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Plus members.
• Stop & Shop: In most locations open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

• The Fresh Market: Open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Labor Day.

Retailers On Labor Day

Forget something other than food? These retailers will also be open on Labor Day if you need some sunblock, lawn chairs, or an extra package of toilet paper. Some will have modified hours, so it's worth it to call ahead or check the store website for your location.
