Man With Knife Fatally Shot By Police At VA Senior Home

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man with a knife was fatally shot by police at a Woodbridge senior living facility on Saturday morning after authorities said he attacked a 91-year-old woman.

Prince William County police responded to the Westminster at Lake Ridge Senior Living home shortly before 10 a.m. after receiving a call about a 26-year-old man in distress who had a knife.

After making contact with the man inside the facility, authorities said the man approached officers with a knife. According to police, the man ignored commands to drop the knife, leading officers to fire multiple shots at him.

Shortly after the initial confrontation, police said the man attacked the woman, prompting officers to fire at him again.

Officers provided aid to both the man and woman, police said. The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. She is expected to recover.

The man died at the scene, police said.

During their investigation, police determined the man and woman were related. Another woman inside the home during the incident was uninjured.

The Prince William County Police Department has requested that the regional Critical Incident Response Team assume the investigation into the incident. The involved officers were placed on routine administrative leave, the department said.
