EVERETT, WA — One person died and two others were hurt in a two-alarm residential fire in Everett early Thursday, according to local fire authorities. One of the injured residents reportedly sustained significant burns.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, officials said, noting more than 50 first responders from at least five separate agencies assisted with battling the blaze and rescuing the affected residents.

Everett firefighters were first dispatched to the 3600-block of Shore Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. April 25. The 911 callers who phoned in the fire reportedly told dispatchers they heard someone shouting "fire" and "help" from the home before firefighters arrived.

Also before fire crews arrived, a neighbor reportedly tried to help rescue a resident who was trapped in the home, but the fire's intensity prevented him from getting inside.

After crews arrived, they accessed the burning home and retrieved an unconscious female resident. Medics attempted life-saving measures but were unable to revive the woman, officials said.

Two other residents — an adult male and another woman — were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The woman reportedly sustained serious burns and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a brief stop at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett. The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Providence.

Joining the Everett Fire Department during the incident were South Snohomish County Fire and Rescue, Mukilteo Fire, Marysville Fire District, and Naval Station Everett. No firefighters were hurt, officials said.
