City of Lakewood Youth Make a Difference at Historic Patient Cemetery

The City of Lakewood Youth will return to serve the on the annual “Make A Difference Day.”

Youth will rally at City Hall at 8:00 a.m., then go to volunteer worksites. Five youth have chosen to lead projects for Grave Concerns in the Fort Steilacoom Park. Anticipated needs include installing 30 new markers, documenting markers with photography, raking, cleanup and celebration.

Grave Concerns Volunteers will be in the worksite to greet them. Parking will be within the cemetery gates. Note: A cross country meet is happening that day, so caution is advised. Laurel Lemke, Chair Grave Concerns, says “This event has become an important part of the annual calendar for the Grave Concerns Association. The youth are enthusiastic and productive. They learn about history and the dignity and respect which is being returned to the cemetery stone by stone.”
