Hit & Run Seriously Injures Parkland Girl: Sheriff

PARKLAND, WA — A Parkland girl who was struck by an SUV Saturday night while riding her scooter across the street in her neighborhood successfully underwent surgery Sunday for multiple broken bones throughout her body, including her pelvis, femur, and shoulder, according to the girl's family.

Now the Pierce County Sheriff's Department is focused on finding the person who drove over her and never stopped.

Katelyn Rogers, a fourth grade student at The Cor Deo School in Tacoma, was reportedly hit around 7:30 p.m. May 11 in the 900-block of 113th Street South in Parkland. The vehicle that hit her was described as a black SUV, possibly a late 2000s-model Mitsubishi Montero, according the the sheriff's department.

The vehicle's front end reportedly sustained some visible damage.

If you recognize this SUV, call the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

The vehicle was apparently seen speeding through the neighborhood before hitting Katelyn, then fleeing west on 113th Street South.

After she was hit, Katelyn was taken to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, where she underwent surgery the following day.

To help with the unexpected medical bills, Katelyn's family has reached out on GoFundMe.com to solicit $15,000, which will reportedly cover the family's needs beyond what insurance will pay.

Regarding the missing suspect SUV, Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and charges filed against the person responsible.
