Impairment Factor In 1-Car Crash Early Thursday, WSP Says

Two Tacoma men were hurt in a single vehicle crash south of Spanaway just after midnight Thursday. The cause is still under investigation.

SPANAWAY, WA - Impairment is being considered a factor in a singe vehicle car crash south of Spanaway early Thursday that left two men injured, according to Washington State Patrol.

Tacoma residents Jason A. Atonio and Scott Galo Poloai, both 20, were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Neither man was reportedly wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred.

Atonio was driving a black Cadillac Escalade north on State Route 7 just after 12 a.m. Feb. 28 when he crossed over the southbound lanes and left the roadway completely, plowing through a fence and into a tree, WSP Trooper Kahmina Ford said in a statement.

SR-7 south was reportedly blocked for more than two hours while law enforcement investigated the crash.

The official cause and whether charges will be filed will be shared following the investigation, Ford said.
