LAKEWOOD, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department has identified the suspects in a recent armed carjacking and police pursuit as two teenage girls.

Wednesday's incident started just after 1 p.m. That's when deputies say they received a 911 call from a woman, who told dispatchers a pair of young girls had stolen her car at gunpoint in an apartment complex in the 17400 block of 44th Ave E in Spanaway.

Deputies were dispatched to search the area for the stolen white Jeep, but once they found it, the suspects took off, sparking a police chase. During the pursuit, the Jeep briefly pulled off the road, popping a tire and damaging the front left side of the vehicle.

The chase ended when the Jeep pulled up to Clover Park High School. One of the girls, a 17-year-old who deputies say had been driving the stolen Jeep, jumped out and fled into the school building. The school went on lockdown — after she had already made it inside — but she was quickly captured and placed under arrest. Officers say she carried the gun used in the robbery into the school. It was a pink and silver handgun stolen in a car prowl last year, The News Tribune reported.

She has since been booked into Remann Hall, accused of assault in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, possession of a stolen firearm and eluding officers.

The second suspect, a 15-year-old girl, remained in the car outside the school. She has also been booked into Remann Hall, on charges of robbery in the first degree.
