Lakewood's Fallen Officer Drive Gathers 12,000 Pounds Of Food

Lakewood Police are wrapping up another successful year of their Fallen Officer Food Drive.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Another year, another successful Fallen Officer Food Drive for the Lakewood Police Department.

Police say this year's drive, which began Dec. 1 and wrapped Monday, was a huge success. They're still tallying up the last round of donations, but say that this year's drive gathered at least 12,160 pounds of food and $14,185 in donation— both of which will go to the Emergency Food Network as it tries to help West Pierce County residents struggling with food instability.

The Fallen Officer Food Drive started 12 years ago as a way to commemorate four Lakewood Police officers who were ambushed and killed in a coffee shop in 2009. Each year, Lakewood Police says the community response has been astounding.
