Pierce County Ferry Memorial Day Service

The purpose of this alert is to advise you of the Pierce County Ferry service planned for the 2013 Memorial Day Weekend, beginning Friday May 24 through Monday May 27. The normal ferry schedule will operate Friday through Sunday. Whether reviewing the printed schedule or the online schedule, the Friday-Saturday schedule is shown in a separate section. Similarly, the Sunday only schedule is also shown in a separate section. For Monday, May 27, please refer to the schedule section labeled “Holidays” and not the section labeled Monday-Wednesday. There are additional evening runs on holidays that are not reflected on the typical Monday schedule. Lastly, on Friday/24, Saturday/25, and Monday/27 only (i.e., not Sunday), the Pierce County Ferry is prepared to meet additional demand as it may occur. If a full load occurs on a scheduled run, Pierce County Ferry may elect to make an additional unscheduled run with the second vessel. These runs are not planned in advance and will simply be in response to a high level of demand if and when it should occur. The purpose of an unscheduled run will be simply to alleviate an overload situation on the next scheduled run. Such additional unscheduled runs are discretionary and the final decision to make or not make an unscheduled run rests with the vessel Captain. Our Captains are in the best position to make the right decision based on all considerations. While an unscheduled run cannot be planned on, please note that the Pierce County Ferry’s goal is to serve our customers as quickly, efficiently, and cost effectively as possible. Ferry service will respond to demand as the circumstances warrant – again, on Friday, Saturday, and Monday only. Please also remember that large vehicles may be restricted from certain runs over the holiday weekend due to low tides. Those specific time periods are the subject of a separate ferry alert. Your Airport and Ferry Division staff wishes you a most pleasant and enjoyable weekend! -Pierce County
