Puyallup police had their hands full this past week with plenty of shoplifters, including one man who thought to use his own kid as a mule.

PUYALLUP, WA β€” A lot of merchandise was stolen over the past few days from a variety of Puyallup businesses, and it's probably safe to say even more might have been taken were it not for the quick response of Puyallup's police force. Among the shoplifters foiled was a man who apparently tried to use his 16-year-old daughter to help him cart out more than $700 in product from Target.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man after he pushed his girlfriend into a wall during an argument over money.

Theft

3829 S. Meridian - TJ Maxx

A woman's wallet was stolen from the counter at TJ Maxx after she set it down while she was being helped on May 2.

Fraud

407 Valley Ave. NE - Meridian Pointe Apartments

A suspect contacted the victim pretending to be the Social Security Administration. The suspect told the victim to purchase over a thousand dollars in Google Play cards, which the victim did. The victim then gave the numbers to the suspect.

Puyallup police officials said this particular scam is one they hear about regularly, noting the Social Security Administration, the IRS, and the police department do not want Google play money.

1510 S. Meridian - Big EZ Car Wash

Police arrested a 25-year-old man with two felony warrants who was called in as a suspicious person at the car wash. Following the man's arrest, police found heroin and "jiggler keys" in his possession.

611 S. Meridian - Safeway

A male was contacted outside Safeway after he was called in as a suspected shoplifter. Management requested he be trespassed. A records check revealed he had a confirmed warrant out of Puyallup for malicious mischief 3rd degree - $1100.00. He was booked.

Warrant Arrest

700-block of East Main Avenue

A male was contacted when he was observed outside a business when it was obviously closed at 1:30am. Upon contact it was found that he was using the business to charge his cell phone.

He voluntarily provided his name and a records check revealed he had a confirmed DOC felony No-bail warrant. DOC was unable to meet, therefore we provided him a transport to SCORE Jail where he was booked.

Warrant Arrest

120 31st Ave. SE - PetSmart

A woman who was previously trespassed from Walmart was caught charging her phone at the store. And though the woman was recognized by Walmart's loss prevention staff, she left the store on foot before police arrived.

While walking down the street away from Walmart and toward The Home Depot, the woman was observed burning paper β€” an act she reportedly continued on the sidewalk near PetSmart.

After police contacted the woman, they learned she had a warrant from King County. Because the Puyallup jail was at capacity, police took the woman to King County to answer for her warrant there.

1200 Fourth St. NW - Goodwill

A man was stopped by police while riding his bike at night without lights or a helmet. A records check showed the man had a warrant from Sumner. He was arrested.

Warrant Arrest / Unlawful Possession Controlled Substance

300-block of Second Street Northeast

A male was contacted riding his bicycle on the sidewalk without a helmet. A records check revealed he had a confirmed warrant out of Pierce county for a trip permit violation - $500.

He was placed into custody without incident. He was searched prior to being transported, which led to the discovery of 11.6 grams of methamphetamine. He was booked.

Warrant Arrest / Felony Theft

3310 S. Meridian - Target

A man was shopping with his family at Target when loss prevention staff caught him removing security devices from the merchandise. Later, the man attempted to leave the store with a cart loaded with more than $760 in products, which the man's 16-year-old daughter was reportedly pushing. The man said his daughter didn't know the merchandise wasn't paid for.

After the man was arrested, police learned he also had multiple county warrants.

DV Assault

1400-block of Fifth Avenue Southwest

A man who reportedly hit his girlfriend in the head during an argument about a television fled the scene before police arrived. After checking the man's home and other locations, officers finally reached him by phone β€” but he refused to meet with police. So, instead, a citation was issued.

Fraud / Identity Theft

701 43rd Ave. SE - Glenbrooke Apartments

A female called to report that her grandson, deposited a fraudulent check into her bank account for $2,950.00. The bank notified the account holders about the check and took the money out of their account, which overdrew the account.

Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance

1100 N. Meridian - Fred Meyer

A male was contacted within a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. He was passed out with a needle still lodged in his arm. He gave permission to search his vehicle which yielded heroin, methamphetamine, and numerous pills.

He was transported to Pierce County to be booked, however they refused book him due to a medical condition. He was transported to Tacoma General hospital. Report to prosecutor.

Vehicle Prowl

1201 39th Ave. SW - Costco

A male was advised by Costco loss prevention that an unknown male entered his vehicle. He went out to check and he noticed the driver’s side door was open and his backpack missing. He last saw his backpack around 12:30pm.

His vehicle was parked on the south side of Costco and he said his driver side door was probably left unlocked.

Loss prevention described the male as Hispanic, early 20's about 5'8, wearing a white jacket, jeans and carrying two backpacks, one of which was the victim’s. The male was seen getting into a gold Honda Prelude.

Theft from Vehicle

500-block of Valley Avenue Northeast

Sometime overnight someone broke into the victim’s vehicle through the wing window and stole his golf clubs.

Recovery

400-block of Second Avenue Northeast

An officer recovered a bicycle that was stolen out of county a year ago. The owner was notified.

Making False Statements, Warrants

230-block of West Stewart Avenue

A 55-year-old female was contacted for trespassing and lied about her name to conceal several warrants. Didn’t work. She was booked.

Burglary

2500-block of East Main Avenue

A 38-year-old male broke into the maintenance garage and parked his vehicle in there. He was contacted inside the building and taken into custody. The male stated that he was hiding from the police, who he was β€œracing” on the freeway with.

We were not able to locate any calls of this nature. He may have hidden from them, but not from us. He was booked.

Motor Vehicle Recovery

1100 N. Meridian

Police recovered a vehicle in the back of the parking lot, near the Riverwalk Trail, that was previously reported stolen out of Orting. The owner retrieved the vehicle and it was removed from the system.

Assault – Domestic Violence

1409 S. Meridian - Northwest Motor Inn

A woman was arrested for kicking her boyfriend in the chest during an argument.

UPCS / Warrant Arrest / Recovery

1720 River Rd. - Shell Gas

A female was contacted after she was observed leaving from a vehicle that had a confirmed stolen plate. She was contacted within the bathroom of the Shell Station. She advised that the vehicle belonged to her boyfriend and she had no idea the plate was stolen.

A records check revealed that she had multiple warrants for her arrest. Located within her purse was approximately 3 grams of methamphetamine. She was booked.

Assault – Domestic Violence

2101 N. Meridian

Police arrested a man who assaulted his girlfriend during an argument, choking her and punching her in the face, possibly breaking her nose.

Mental Health

1700-block of 13th Street Southeast

A 20-year-old male jumped out the second story window trying to harm himself. He would not say why. He was involuntarily committed.

Identity Theft

407 Valley Ave. NE - Meridian Pointe Apartments

Someone has opened credit card accounts using the victim’s information.

400-block of Ninth Avenue Northeast

An officer located a 24-year-old male in the female restroom using Heroin. He also has a felony warrant for his arrest. He was booked.

Trespass / Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

121 E. Stewart Ave. - 7-Eleven

A male was contacted after he attempted to leave the store with merchandise he did not pay for. He dumped items prior to being contacted within the store, which prevented him from leaving with any merchandise.

He was found to have been previously trespassed, therefore he was arrested. Search incident to arrest revealed methamphetamine on his person. He was booked.

605 E. Main Ave. - Pink Elephant Car Wash

A couple were contacted at the car wash as it appeared they were tampering with the vacuums. Both were run via records. He returned with a warrant out of Lakewood. He was booked.

Vehicle Prowl

1101 S. Meridian - WA State Fair Blue Lot

The victim reported his canopy lock was punched and $3,000 worth of tools stolen Friday (May 3) between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Counterfeit Bill

1115 E. Main Ave. - Taco Time

A thin white man in a brown full-sized van passed a washed $1 bill as a counterfeit $100 around 8 p.m. on Cinco de Mayo.

Burglary / Vehicle Prowl

1000-block of Ninth Avenue Southeast

The victim discovered that his unlocked vehicle, which contained a key and garage door opener to his house, had been prowled. After returning home from work, he found that two of his safes had been stolen from inside his residence.

Burglary / MVTR

100-block of 27th Street Northeast

A victim discovered that his residence had been burglarized and that his 2004 white Nissan Armada had been stolen. The responding officer pulled several latent prints and recovered numerous stolen electronics that he found staged nearby. Report to ISU.

Fraud

600-block of 16th Avenue Court Southwest

A victim discovered that $500 had been fraudulently withdrawn from her debit account.

Theft / Trespass

611 S. Meridian - Safeway

A male who had been trespassed from Bumpy’s earlier in the shift was arrested after stealing beer from Safeway, where he had been previously trespassed from as well. He was booked.

Theft

4022 S. Meridian - Burger King

A male left his table to make a phone call, inadvertently leaving his wallet out on the table. Another customer told him that his wallet had been turned in to staff. Staff advised no wallet had been turned in.

Burglary

1400-block of North Meridian

Sometime between Christmas Day 2018 and New Year's Day 2019 a man's storage unit was burglarized. Among the items stolen from the man were a Rolex watch, a shoe collection valued at $5,000, and his mother's ashes.
