Barge Catches Fire In Commencement Bay
Tacoma Fire is currently responding to a scrap metal fire aboard a barge. Firefighters say the blaze is contained to the vessel.
TACOMA, WA β A scrap metal fire aboard a barge had firefighters rushing to Commencement Bay early Monday.
The Tacoma Fire Department first reported the blaze at around 10:45 am., saying that it had mobilized crews and the Fireboat Defiance to contain the fire, which is burning near the 6300 block of Marine View Drive.
Firefighters are on scene and say the fire has been contained to the vessel. However, the U.S. Coast Guard is enforcing a 300-yard safety zone around the area until the fire is extinguished.

US Coast Guard is on scene inspecting the vessels. Fire is under control. The barge that had the fire will be towed to shore and unloaded.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
