Child Rape Suspect Shot, Killed After Stabbing Officer: Police

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is linked to two shootings in Chehalis Friday. Here's what we know right now.

CHEHALIS, WA β€” The Pierce County Sheriff's Office has been tied up in a pair of police shootings that took place in Chehalis Friday.

According to a news release from the Sheriff's Department, two of its detectives had gone to Chehalis Friday morning to arrest a 32-year-old man on child rape charges. At around 10:15 a.m., the two made contact with the suspect. Shortly afterwards, they called in reports of shots fired, requesting priority backup.

Chehalis Police answered the call for backup, while the detectives returned to the nearby police station. They were not seriously injured, the Sheriff's Department said.

However, after the detectives left the scene, local police officers continued to search the area. They found the suspect, but he reportedly retaliated by stabbing an officer. Police opened fire, and the suspect was struck and killed. The severity of the Centralia Police officer's wounds is unknown.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office has been contracted to investigate the first shooting involving the Pierce County detectives, as well as the second deadly shooting involving the Centralia Police Department.
