PUYALLUP, WA β€” The Pierce County Sheriff's Department took some time this week to thank a special agent and his K9 partner for their help solving a recent crime.

The incident in question happened back on Nov. 1, the Sheriff's Department said, when their deputies were called to investigate a shooting and homicide. While trying to capture a suspect, the fleeing man tossed away his gun mid-pursuit.

Deputies were unable to track down the gun on their own, so they called in help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The ATF deployed Special Agent Sutton and his K9 partner, Wes, who found the gun within 15 minutes of their arrival.

The Sheriff's Department says Wes and Sutton helped them crack the case, and this week presented both with a certificate of appreciation.

"The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department appreciates both Special Agent Sutton and his K9 partner, Wes, for their continued support and dedication to duty," the department said.
