Puyallup Man Arrested After Standoff Thursday Night
A Puyallup man was arrested Thursday after a two-hour standoff with officers.
PUYALLUP, WA β A two-hour standoff with Puyallup law enforcement Thursday night ended with the arrest of a 48-year-old man who'd been sought by police for the past five days.
Chris Monroe Gideon is facing charges for assault, attempting to elude police, unlawfully displaying a weapon, violating a No Contact order, driving while suspended, and malicious mischief, according to Puyallup police Operations Captain Dan Pashon.
Gideon's latest run-in with Puyallup police actually began with a traffic stop on May 25, Pashon explained in a statement released Thursday night.

Last Saturday, a Puyallup officer reportedly pulled over Gideon in the 400-block of Seventh Street Southwest for an unspecified traffic violation. While speaking with the officer, Gideon allegedly drew a sword and "stuck it out the window towards the officer," Pashon said. Gideon then drove away and the officer initiated a pursuit.
The officer ultimately lost Gideon in the neighborhood, but not without first successfully identifying Gideon as the suspect involved, Pashon said. Along with identifying Gideon, police reportedly learned he had a felony warrant for a previous domestic violence incident.

Five days later, on May 30 around 4 p.m., Puyallup police detectives located Gideon in the 800-block of Fifth Street Southwest, at the home of his estranged girlfriend β for whom a judge issued a No Contact order, restricting Gideon from being at the home.
After making contact with Gideon, police were reportedly unable to coax him out of the residence. Telling officers he was armed with a handgun, Gideon suggested he intended to commit "suicide by cop," Pashon said.
After the arrival of a Washington State Patrol SWAT Team, a Puyallup police negotiator took over the situation and spoke with Gideon for the next couple hours, Pashon said.
Around 8:45 p.m., Gideon reportedly surrendered and was arrested without additional incident. He was booked into Pierce County jail around 2:30 a.m.
Earlier in the month, on May 8, Gideon was arrested for malicious mischief involving the same estranged girlfriend.
According to court documents obtained by Patch, Gideon β in the midst of an argument with his girlfriend β "threw a full unopened can of soda at the front windshield" of her car, in which sat his girlfriend and her mother. After the incident, his girlfriend and her mother left the area.
Later, however, a witness saw Gideon approach the same vehicle and hit it twice with a baseball bat, causing more damage, documents show.
After Gideon failed to appear for his hearing for that incident, a bench warrant was reportedly issued for his arrest on May 23.
