Griffin Home Gets A New Sport Court

Friends of Youth is pleased to announce the official opening of a new Sports Court at our Griffin Home campus located in Renton, which includes a basketball court and soccer field. This sport court was created with support from the Rotary Club of Renton; the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; the Office of Refugee Resettlement, Division of Children’s Services and several individual donors.  One of those donors is State Representative Marcie Maxwell, who was also on hand to help cut the ribbon at the opening on May 30, 2012.

Opened in 1954, Griffin Home is one of the few remaining residential treatment programs in Washington State for boys who need intensive intervention. In addition to counseling, life skills training, and educational services, recreation provides a key physical outlet for the boys. Participation in sports, such as basketball and soccer, also helps youth learn critical teamwork skills and self-confidence.
