Patrick D’Amelio is new CEO of Washington STEM

Washington STEM, an organization dedicated to advancing excellence, equity, and innovation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, today announced the appointment of Patrick D'Amelio as its Chief Executive Officer.

D’Amelio has a fierce devotion to providing educational opportunities to children from underserved populations. He will bring to Washington STEM a commitment to ensuring every child has an opportunity to succeed in the workplace of the future. D’Amelio has twice served as president and CEO of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Puget Sound, most recently from December 2009 until present, where he oversaw the matching of nearly 1,500 youth annually with adult mentors. Before that, he was president and CEO for the Alliance for Education, a nonprofit that seeks to advance academic achievement for all students in Seattle Public Schools.

“Patrick brings a long history of nonprofit leadership, inspiring people across sectors around mission-driven work,” said Dean Allen, Washington STEM Board President and CEO at McKinstry. “He has a genuine commitment to the students we care deeply about and will be a great addition to the strong Washington STEM team.”

D’Amelio will report to Washington STEM’s Board of Directors and will be responsible for the organization’s management, operating team programs, and infrastructure.

“Patrick understands the value and importance of quality education for all students in our state. He brings insight and knowledge of how out-of-school experiences can complement and reinforce what happens in the school day to engage and inspire the next generation in STEM,” said Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel, Washington STEM Board Secretary and Renton School District Superintendent.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to join Washington STEM’s team of dedicated people that are working to ensure every student has a foundation in STEM to thrive and compete for the jobs of today and the future,” said D’Amelio. “I’m looking forward to working with our partners, board, funders, staff, and communities across Washington to inspire students about STEM.”
