CANCELED: Witness Transit of Venus at Hazen High School

**DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE RENTON SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED**

On June 5 at 3 p.m., more than a dozen solar-equipped telescopes, manned by 40 well-trained Hazen High School students, will assist the public in viewing the planetary phenomenon known as the Transit of Venus, when Venus passes directly between earth and the sun. Historically, this rare alignment is how we measured the size of our solar system.

Renton School District’s Hazen High School, led by Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teacher Todd Pollard, is the only site in the region that this public viewing event (equipped with the special telescopes) will take place.

The next transit won’t happen until 2117.
