Hip-Hip-Hooray For National Ice Cream Day

It's the stuff childhoods are made of.

Perfect spheres of cool, creamy goodness atop a crunchy sugar cone. 

President Ronald Reagan declared July as National Ice Cream Month and designated the third Sunday as the official "National Ice Cream Day," according to punchbowl.com.

It's pretty chilly most of the year in the Pacific Northwest, so ice cream options in Renton are few as we found out while researching the frozen dessert scene.

Patch scoped out the scene, and here's what we found:

• sells gelato by the half-pint for $4, or a 6-ounce scoop for $3 with exotic plovers such as pistachio, rice and chocolate chili. Flavors vary depending on shipments.

• also offers frozen delights at Schnoo Yogurt. They keep it simple with only a handful of flavors including original, chocolate and mango in addition to a few other. Schnoo prides itself in offering a dessert with the healthful benefit of "live, active probiotic cultures." They also offer fresh fruit toppings in addition to traditional ice cream toppings such as brownies and nuts.

• seems to be Renton's only official ice cream shop. With two locations (520 Rainier Avenue South and 17819 108th Avenue) and its 32 flavors, the longtime ice cream chain is always a safe bet.

• For those ice cream lovers who like to keep a half-gallon in the freezer, offers some of the most unique flavors including coconut, taro and red bean.
