Missing Renton Man's Body Found, Death Ruled Homicide: Police

RENTON, WA — The disappearance of a missing Renton man has now become a homicide investigation.

Detectives announced Friday that a medical examiner has positively identified the remains of 20-year-old Daniel J. Shur as well as his manner of death.

According to the Renton Police Department, Shur was found dead in a wooded area near the 2200 block of Reservation Road SE in Olympia on Sept. 24. He'd been deceased for quite some time. At the time, he had no identification on him.

Shur had been reported missing on Aug. 26, 2021 by a concerned acquaintance, police said.

Although there were no immediate indications of foul play at Shur's home, police said those closest to him expressed concerns that he may have left his residence under duress.

During the investigation into Shur's disappearance, attempts to contact him by phone and other means were not successful, police said.

According to detectives, initial findings have determined that Shur suffered numerous fatal stab wounds.

Police said Shur was known to frequently buy and sell vehicles and may have had close relationship with regional car clubs. Renton detectives are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who has participated in a vehicle transaction with Shur over the course of this last year, or anyone who may have been traveling near the 2200 block of Reservation Road SE in Olympia between Aug. 22,2021-Sept. 24,2021 and noticed something unusual or suspicious.
