Renton Winter Storm Wrap-Up, January 19

Day four of the January 2012 snow and ice storm is beginning to wrap up. Here's the latest from the City of Renton:

The Emergency Operations Center is now activated and residents without power can warm up at a daytime warming shelter located at the hours until 9 p.m. The located at 1715 SE Maple Valley Hwy will remain open until 5 p.m. as a second warming shelter. The city cannot provide transportation to theses shelters and patrons should bring their own food, beverages, and entertainment as all programs have been canceled. Children must be supervised by their guardian at all times. No pets are allowed in the shelter, with the exception of service animals.

will remain open tonight, from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. Friday. The shelter was originally set to open on Jan 16-17; however, the City decided to continued the service this week due to freezing temperatures.

Earlier this year, the City announced the installation of 17 Neighborhood Information Centers located at the entrance to every Renton School District school within city limits. The centers have shelter information available in multiple languages, according to the City.

Public Works crews continue to work around the clock to maintain roads, however some roads have been closed for safety reasons including:

• 4000 NE Sunset at Union
• S. 192 St. Ave from Talbot Rd. to 102th Ave. SE
• 600 Taylor NW
• 10910 SE 181st
• 18600 112 Ave. SE
• NE Sunset Bl/Union

Puget Sound Energy reports that 16,224 customers are without power as of 4 p.m. Thursday; . City officials urge residents to prepare for outages lasting two or more days.

REMEMBER: Traffic laws require that unlighted signals be treated as four-way stops.
