The Next Curve Rolls Into Third Year; Sets Sights High

Now in it’s third year, continues to gain momentum, attract new members and support more Renton nonprofits.

“A big part of it is donations to local nonprofits,” said 2012 President Cherish Hart. “But really the purpose is to connect people with these agencies. The grants are secondary.”

Last year, five Next Curve members became board members of area nonprofits, she said.

Hart’s interest in The Next Curve stemmed from her interest to get more involved in the Renton community and to meet other like-minded people.

The experience has given Hart a better sense of connection to Renton and has introduced her to the city’s hidden gems: the restaurants, businesses and nonprofit organizations that make Renton special and unique.

The Next Curve began as an idea in late 2009. The following year marked the group’s inception, with 32 members, including Hart. Together they gave $6,250 in grants the first year. In 2011 The Next Curve grew to 38 members and .

This year Hart hopes the group will continue to grow and hit the $10,000 donation mark.
