Valentine's Day: Start With A Card

Meaningful words and actions may prove to be better gifts than anything you can buy.

Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, is nearly here. You'd rather not purchase a Hallmark card and a box of chocolates in a last-minute, mad-dash to feign romantic feelings for your sweety.

The feelings are there, so why not show them through words and actions? Here's a thought: create a hand-made card. Dozens of people did so this weekend at Mrs. Magoo and Lou's make-and-take card workshop at in downtown Renton.

If you'd rather jump off a cliff than get crafty, Mrs. Magoo and Lou also sell already made cards at happy delusions. But you'll have to add your own thughts inside. There can be nothing more romantic than a hand-written, authenic love letter. is normally closed on Mondays, but will be open from 11a.m.-6p.m. Feb. 13 for last-minute Valentine's Day purchases.

And don't forget: Actions always speak louder than words. Pick up a bouquet at and place it on the kitchen table, along with a special home-cooked meal, romance-inspired dessert and a little vino ().
