Here are the top three stories today in Spokane:
- At least 15 students from Lewis and Clark High School have had their cars broken into and they want the school system to do more to protect their property. Most of the thefts have happened while the students were in school during the day, but incidents have also occurred at night during games and other programs. Leilani Santiago, a Junior at LC and a victim of the break-ins, said that she wishes the school system would install cameras and patrol the garages. (KHQ Right Now)
- Spokane City Council passed a resolution recommending best practices for future low-barrier shelters last Monday, Apr. 25. The resolution includes a cap on 100 beds/acre, independent security assessments, on-site lockable storage, and more. The resolution passed 5-2. (KHQ Right Now)
- Low-income Spokane seniors have a chance to win an $80 voucher for fresh produce and honey from local farmers through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The program, put together by Catholic Charities' Food For All program and Aging and Long-Term Care of Eastern Washington, seeks to improve the nutritional health of low-income seniors. A random drawing will be held in June and over 2,500 seniors will be awarded a voucher. (FOX 28 Spokane)
