Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:
- A Spokane fire truck traveling on Highway 395 near Wild Rose Road slid on ice and then flipped onto its side early yesterday morning. Firefighters said they were responding to a slide-off when they tried to slow the truck down but lost control. The two crew members in the vehicle were taken to the hospital but reported to be alright. (KHQ Right Now)
- Fortify Holdings LLC has purchased three motels in Spokane with plans to renovate them into apartments accessible to the workforce. Ziad Elsahili, president of the company, said that for the past two years he has embarked on purchasing vintage hotels/motels and converting them into workforce housing for communities that desperately need it. The former Quality Inn at 104 E. 4th, the Econolodge at 1503 S. Rustle Street, and the Days Inn at 120 W 3rd, are all under renovation. (KXLY Spokane)
- Spokane police have recommended upgraded charges against 19-year-old Serenity Dalziel for crashing a car into the Spokane River. Sgt. Teresa Fuller stated in a media release that the upgraded charges were due in part to the extensive injuries of the passengers and a determination by the Drug Recognition Expert that Dalziel was likely impaired by cannabis. The new charges are two counts of Vehicular Assault and Reckless Endangerment. (KREM.com)

- A 36-second TikTok video about a "Spokane-style pizza" put out by Chef Josh Sherer, an L.A.-based culinary content creator, also known as the Mythical Chef, has gotten mixed reviews from many Spokanites who deny that such a thing exists. In the video, Sherer describes the pizza style as a deep dished version with canned salmon and regional wild strawberries. In light of the confusion the video sparked, Sherer came out to say that it was just a joke. (KXLY Spokane)
