The future of Spokane is looking bright, thanks to the incredible young people working to strengthen our community. In partnership with T-Mobile, Patch is proud to spotlight future leaders like Padmaja Senthil Kumar, who are making a positive impact in and around Spokane.

Padmaja, a neuroscience student at the University of Washington, has already achieved remarkable milestones as a standout young leader in STEM. A graduate of Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane, she was selected as a Washington State delegate for the prestigious American Junior Academy of Science in recognition of her original research on the allosteric modulation of GABAA receptors. As one of only 11 students chosen statewide, Padmaja joined the nation’s top high school scientists and had the opportunity to present her findings at the American Association for the Advancement of Science's annual meeting.

In addition, Padmaja was a finalist at the 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair for her groundbreaking work on CNS-permeable inhibitors as potential therapeutics for traumatic brain injuries. Her academic excellence also earned her a $4,000 Science Scholarship from the Spokane Scholars Foundation. Exemplifying innovation and leadership in science, Padmaja demonstrates remarkable potential to drive meaningful advancements in neuroscience.
