🌱 New Patrols For Distracted Drivers + Governor Signs House Bill 1725

Here are the top three stories today in Spokane:

  1. Starting Apr. 4, the Washington State Patrol will be looking out for distracted drivers more than ever. Every April, the WSP puts an emphasis on cracking down on drivers texting, eating, or attending to kids or pets. The minimum fine for distracted driving is $136. (KXLY Spokane)
  2. Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed into law House Bill 1725, a bill that creates an alert system for missing Indigenous people. The National Congress of American Indians stated that Native American women are murdered nearly three times more than white women and are four times more likely to go missing. The Washington State House and Senate gave the bill unanimous support. (KHQ Right Now)
  3. This season, the city of Spokane will spend approximately $80 million on new construction projects. Projects like new bike lanes and bus stops will be paid for by local, state, and federal funds. “Regularly maintaining city streets improves safety. It keeps our traffic moving smoothly,” said Mayor Nadine Woodward. (The Spokesman Review)
