Spokane Valley deputies arrest man who threatened hotel employee with knife (kxly.com) — Spokane Valley deputies arrested a 64-year-old man who allegedly threatened a hotel employee with a folding knife during check-in at a North Sullivan Road hotel, then returned acting erratically. Staff locked down the office, deputies intervened without injuries, and the man was booked into Spokane County Jail on multiple charges, with his name withheld over mental health concerns.
   

2. Spokane County golf courses to cost a little extra scratch next year, scratch golfers included (spokesman.com) — If you golf Spokane County’s public courses, expect higher fees starting in 2026, from single rounds to season and discount passes. County commissioners approved across-the-board increases to cover rising operating and equipment costs, while Spokane city courses are also considering their own hikes. The changes affect Liberty Lake, Latah Creek, MeadowWood and other county-run greens.
   

3. EWU and Spokane Regional Health District Ink Affiliation Agreement (ewu.edu) — Eastern Washington University and the Spokane Regional Health District have formalized a new clinical training partnership to expand hands-on experience for students in health fields across Spokane County. The agreement is designed to strengthen the local public health workforce, create more internships and joint projects, and support the region’s fast-growing health care sector.
   

4. Fuel costs drop significantly for 2 Spokane gas stations amid pricing competition (khq.com) — If you drive in Spokane, two gas stations on North Hamilton just dropped regular unleaded to under $2 a gallon, far below the county average of $3.68. Hamilton Market and the Mobil across the street are locked in a holiday price war, drawing heavy traffic from bargain-hunting drivers.
   

5. A Spokane Christmas story; Ridpath residents gather for fifth annual holiday dinner put on by ownership group (thenewstribune.com) — Residents of Spokane’s historic Ridpath building recently gathered on the mezzanine for their fifth annual holiday dinner, a tradition hosted by the ownership group to build community in the small-unit, affordable apartments. The event, supported by Women & Children’s Free Restaurant, also stocked a community pantry and offered comfort to tenants and investor Paul Mann, who continues the celebration in honor of his late wife, Janet.
