6 Teens Shot After Fight Near Milwaukee's Juneteenth Celebration: Cops
Six people ranging in age from 14 to 19 were injured when shots rang out near a Juneteenth celebration in Milwaukee Monday, police said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Six teens and young adults were injured when shots rang out near Milwaukee's Juneteenth celebration on Monday, according to police.
The shooting may have stemmed from a fight between four young girls on MLK Drive before "suspects fired several shots" near Locust Street, police said. Those wounded ranged in age from 14 to 19 years old, according to police.
The shooting came after thousands gathered peacefully nearby to celebrate Juneteenth, police said. Police surrounded the event's teen zone around 4:21 p.m. after the shots were heard, according to a report by CBS58.

Police said their initial investigation suggested a 17-year-old boy who was injured was also a shooter, though authorities are also seeking other suspects. Those who were shot were brought to a hospital but expected to survive.
"What's going on with our children?" Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said at a news conference, TMJ4 reported.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson asserted to reporters after the shootings that the event was safe, especially considering its recent growth in popularity, according to the CBS58 report.
Milwaukee police encouraged the community to do better at resolving their conflict without resorting to guns.
"Parents, guardians, community leaders, neighbors, we all have a role to guide our youth and to speak up if you are aware of illegal firearms," police wrote in a news release. "We are always better together."
