7-Year-Old Shot After Children Find Unlocked Gun In Milwaukee: Cops

Police said charges are pending against a 33-year-old woman and 11-year-old boy after a child was injured by an unsecured gun Sunday.

MILWAUKEE, WI — A 7-year-old suffered a gunshot wound in Milwaukee when he and another child found an unsecured gun Sunday afternoon, according to police.

Police said an 11-year-old and 7-year-old found the gun and the older child accidentally shot it off, hitting the younger child. The 7-year-old boy was brought to a hospital with injuries that were expected to be non-fatal, according to police.

It happened near North 5th and Clarke Streets shortly before 4 p.m., according to a news release from police.

Police said they arrested the older child alongside a 33-year-old woman and charges are expected to be considered by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.

Amid the incident, police reminded people to secure their guns in a safe place away from the reach of children.
