Board of the Fire and Police Commissioners Hits Snag

MILWAUKEE, WI— During Monday's meeting of the Public Safety and Health Committee, Amanda Avalos’ nomination to serve on the Board of the Fire and Police Commissioners was passed on a 3-2 vote.

However, members of the Common Council subsequently learned that the background check

The board faces ongoing dysfunction

initiated by the Fire and Police Commission for Ms. Avalos was not conducted by the Milwaukee
County Sheriff’s Office as outlined in chapter 314-1 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances.

As such, the appointment of Ms. Avalos was not heard at Tuesday's meeting of the Common
Council, delayed until the proper background check is completed.
