Heavy Rain Could Bring Flash Flooding To Greater Milwaukee Monday: NWS

WISCONSIN — Much of southeast Wisconsin and beyond is under a flood watch into Monday evening as chances of excessive rain may bring the threat of flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to be widespread with heavy rain posing flooding risks. Urban and low-lying rural areas are most at risk of floodwaters. Around 2-4 inches of rainfall are expected with amounts possibly higher in local areas, the NWS said.

The flood watch is in effect for much of south central, east central and southeast Wisconsin including Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties with flooding most likely in areas with poor drainage and urban areas, the NWS said.

Forecasters encouraged everyone to monitor forecasts and prepare for action if flash flood warnings are issued. The rainfall is expected from late Monday morning into late evening.

An important safety tip when dealing with the chance of floodwaters is to turn around and don't drown when you see a flooded roadway. The NWS said it is not safe to drive or walk through flood waters.

Amid the chance of rain and thunderstorms, the NWS is also advising about danger alongside the Lake Michigan shoreline. A high swim risk is expected Monday morning into Tuesday afternoon at several beaches in the Milwaukee area amid chances of life-threatening 5-9 foot waves. These beaches are most at risk, the NWS said:

• Atwater Beach in Shorewood.
• Mckinley Beach in Milwaukee.
• Wind Point Lighthouse Beach in Racine.
• Simmons Island Beach in Kenosha.
