Milwaukee neighbors fight to save historic church from potential demolition (tmj4.com) — Neighbors in Milwaukee’s Brewers Hill are mobilizing to protect the 138-year-old Second German Episcopal Church after discovering a demolition permit they say the owner never requested. While city officials say the building was never in immediate danger, the Historic Preservation Commission will weigh its historic status in January, and residents are pushing to keep this cream city brick landmark in Milwaukee’s architectural landscape.

2. Milwaukee Public Schools' high-risk buildings cleared of lead hazards (wisn.com) — Milwaukee Public Schools’ 99 highest-risk, mostly older elementary buildings have now been cleared of lead hazards after an intensive, $43 million cleanup prompted by a student’s poisoning at Golda Meir’s Lower Campus. Students from six schools were temporarily relocated while 2,700 classrooms were cleaned and repainted, and the district has added custodial staff, operations managers, and new oversight to better maintain aging buildings.

3. Civic Media to acquire Wisconsin's first Black-owned radio station, Milwaukee Courier newspaper (jsonline.com) — Milwaukee’s historic Black-owned outlets WNOV radio and the Milwaukee Courier are being acquired by Civic Media, with new programming oversight starting January 1. Local journalist and UW-Milwaukee staffer Robert “Biko” Baker will manage operations, aiming to carry forward Dr. Jerrel Jones’ legacy of serving Milwaukee’s Black community with trusted, community-rooted news and talk.

4. The Interview: John Walz (biztimes.com subscription) — Milwaukee School of Engineering president John Walz is stepping down Jan. 1 to become president emeritus, focusing on fundraising for the $125 million Next Bold Step campaign and a new academic building. He reflects on expanding inclusion, boosting female enrollment, and growing the We Energies STEM Center that now serves thousands of K-12 students across Milwaukee each year.

5. Community raises over $29,000 during Home 4 the Holidays virtual food drive (tmj4.com) — A virtual food drive led by TMJ4 and Raymond James has raised more than $29,000 for Milwaukee’s Hunger Task Force, helping stock local tables during a time of 35% higher pantry demand. The Home 4 the Holidays partnership, now in its 10th year, continues to accept online donations so Milwaukee-area families can access holiday meals.
