MILWAUKEE, WI — President Donald Trump is coming to Wisconsin for a campaign rally in Oshkosh on the same day that Democrats kick off a scaled-back 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee.

In coming to Wisconsin, the president threw a jab at his November opponent Joe Biden, who announced earlier this month that he was not coming to the DNC over coronavirus concerns.

"As you know, Joe Biden refuses to come to Wisconsin next week for his own convention," Trump said Wednesday night according to a JSOnline report. "Now, maybe after he hears about this call he will."

You can watch Trump's Wisconsin campaign stop live here. According to a post on the president's campaign blog, Trump's speech is called, "President Donald J. Trump to deliver remarks on Joe Biden’s failures on Jobs and the Economy," and will be held Monday at 4:30 p.m. CDT at Basler Flight Service, 615 W. 20th Ave. in Oshkosh

In a statement by DNC Chair Tom Perez, said safety was at the center of Biden's decision not to come to Milwaukee for the convention.

"From the very beginning of this pandemic, we put the health and safety of the American people first," said Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez. "We followed the science, listened to doctors and public health experts, and we continued making adjustments to our plans in order to protect lives. That's the kind of steady and responsible leadership America deserves. And that's the leadership Joe Biden will bring to the White House."

Biden is not the only one who is staying away from Milwaukee next week. DNC officials said all speakers and presenters for the Aug. 17-24 convention are expected to speak remotely.

The scaled-back convention was months in the making. It was originally postponed from its mid-July date as organizers grappled with the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is not the first time Trump has coordinated a Wisconsin visit with a major Democratic event in the state. In July 2019, Trump came to Milwaukee less than 24 hours after a Democratic Presidential Town Hall that was held at the Wisconsin Center that featured four of the top Democratic presidential hopefuls.
