Milwaukee Police Officer Involved In Shots Fired Incident

MILWAUKEE, WI—The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that occurred Sunday around 7:50 p.m. in the 4300 block of N. 51st Boulevard.

Uniformed Milwaukee Police Officers in a marked squad car saw a car operating in a reckless manner in the area of N. 51st Boulevard and W. Capitol Drive, according to a statement from the department.

Officers were able to catch up to the vehicle in the area of N. 51st Boulevard and W. Congress Street after the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection to avoid crashing with another vehicle.

Officers exited their vehicle and attempted to make contact with the driver when an individual from the vehicle fired several shots, according to police. An officer returned fire. The individuals fled in the vehicle and a pursuit ensued, according to police.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped in the 6000 block of W. Hampton Avenue. Two individuals from the suspect vehicle, a 31-year-old male and a 30-year-old female, were arrested without further incident.

The suspect’s firearm was recovered.

No one was struck from the gunfire as a result of this incident.

The officer involved is a 24-year-old male with over 5 years of service. The officer was placed on administrative duty.

Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the upcoming days.
