Traffic Stop Police Shooting Prompts Wisconsin DOJ Investigation
The Wisconsin Department of Justice says they're investigating a police shooting that happened Sunday night in Watertown.
WATERTOWN, WI — Wisconsin authorities say they're investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday night in Watertown.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, a Watertown police officer conducted a traffic stop on a driver in Watertown after police said they wanted to bring the man in for questioning related to an apparent domestic incident. Police said the officer pulled the man, identified as a 31-year-old white man, because his car had a burned-out taillight.
Wisconsin Department of Justice officials said the officer tried non-lethal means to get the man under control, to no avail. A series of events, not specified by law enforcement, led the officer to fire his gun at the man, striking him once. A firearm not belonging to the officer was found on-scene, state officials said.
