WI Summer Weather Will Be Introduced By Thunderstorms, Forecasters Say

"All the ingredients are there" for severe weather in the Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, an AccuWeather forecaster said.

WISCONSIN — The Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, faces a high chance for severe weather like damaging storms and tornadoes starting in June, according to an AccuWeather forecast.

The Midwest, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast are in the path of a possible derecho, a long-lived line of thunderstorms, from June to August 2022, senior meteorologist Paul Pastelok said in a report.

The Midwest faces the highest risk of severe weather, especially in June and July, and storms and tornadoes are possible across the Northeast throughout the summer, the report said.

"We may have a lot of severe weather to deal with here in the Northeast coming early to mid part of the summer season," Pastelok said. "All of the ingredients are there."

The long-term weather pattern for summer 2022 reflects a disastrous derecho that occurred across the Ohio Valley and the mid-Atlantic a decade ago, Pastelok said.

Wet and stormy conditions will fuel the potential for severe weather, but also keep chances for heat waves low in the affected regions, the report said.

Almost all the major cities in the Northeast and Midwest had more 90-degree days than normal last summer, the report added. Forecasters predict that Chicago will have 18 to 24 days above 90 degrees this summer, while the Windy City had 22 days above 90 degrees in 2021.

When is the first warm, sunny day of May expected in the Milwaukee area? Forecasters are banking on Monday to be the first day to break 70 degrees, with a low temperature of 59 and clouds giving way to some sun, a monthly forecast showed.
