Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Huntsville area universities and colleges secured over $130 million in supplemental appropriations from the Education Trust Fund. Of this amount, around $100 million will be invested in projects at the Alabama Robotics Technology Park, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama A&M, and Calhoun Community College, including $30 million for an electronic vehicle workforce training center at the Robotics Technology Park in Tanner. 2. A Thursday shooting on Mountain View Drive in Huntsville injured one person. According to the Huntsville Police Department, the injured person was sent to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be okay. The shooter, Joe George, 58, was arrested and charged with assault. (WAFF)
  3. Huntsville Utilities was granted $1.4 million in additional funding to replace an aging sedimentation basin at their Southwest Water Plant. Originally, the project was estimated to cost $3 million, but upon closer inspection, they realized they needed more to cover the cost. Although the current sedimentation basins are intake, the company wants to replace them preemptively to prevent them from reaching their failing point. (WHNT)
