1. Applications open for UAH cybersecurity, engineering scholarships (rocketcitynow.com) — UAH in Huntsville is now accepting applications for generous cybersecurity scholarships that fully cover tuition and provide sizable stipends starting in Fall 2026. Local students in cybersecurity-related majors can apply for the federal SFS and DoD Cyber Service Academy programs, but must commit to summer internships, maintain strong GPAs, and work for federal agencies after graduation. Applications are due online by January 28, 2026.
   

2. Huntsville Police Department using text surveys to receive feedback from community (rocketcitynow.com) — Huntsville residents who call police for help may now receive a follow-up text survey asking how respected, heard, and supported they felt. The anonymous feedback will guide officer training and enforcement priorities, including issues like traffic and theft concerns. Officials stress the texts are legitimate and aim to build community trust.
   

3. Meet Nollie! News 19's Adoptable Pet of the Week (whnt.com) — A Husky mix named Nollie is waiting for a new home through the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, with her adoption fee already covered by a sponsor. Described as friendly, social, and great with kids and other dogs, she’s a strong fit for an active Huntsville family. Residents can learn more or start the adoption process on the GHHS website.
   

4. Huntsville students experience Broadway magic with exclusive 'Shucked' workshop (rocketcitynow.com) — High school theater students from Huntsville just got an all-expenses-paid masterclass with a cast member from the touring Broadway show “Shucked” at the Von Braun Center. Hosted by Huntsville’s Broadway Theatre League, the workshop, dinner, and show tickets were fully covered through community grants and private donors, helping nurture the next generation of North Alabama performers.
   

5. Michael Joseph Sorocak, Newton Falls, Ohio (wkbn.com) — Huntsville readers are noting the passing of Michael “Mike” Sorocak, 86, who recently moved here after decades in Mobile to be closer to family and died at his Huntsville home. The Ohio native built a long career in the chemical industry, was active in church and civic life, and leaves behind children, grandchildren, and extended family. Services will be private in Ohio, with memorial donations suggested to children’s and faith-based charities.
