Here are the top 3 stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Local TSA officers are finding more weapons in carry-on bags as travel continues its return to normal. TSA spokeswoman Sari Koshetz stated that passengers are not paying attention to their suitcases and are not cleaning out their bags from previous trips. If caught, a passenger can face hefty fines or even lose their TSA pre-check privileges. This year alone, a total of 26 guns have been found in airports across Alabama, including three loaded weapons at the Huntsville International Airport. (WAAY)
  2. Fentanyl is a major issue in Madison County, and Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner plans on putting a stop to it. He is asking that, in the future, those who sell it and who have killed someone be charged with that person’s death. Drug dealers are said to be taking the drug and lacing it into marijuana and heroin, which has resulted in an uptick in deaths in the region. (Subscription: AL.com)
  3. Gas prices are on the rise again. In Huntsville, average gasoline prices rose 2.9 cents per gallon within the last week, averaging $3.07 on Monday. GasBuddy stated that gas prices are 6.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. While states such as Colorado and Ohio are seeing big gasoline price decreases, the downward trends are likely to be brief and temporary, according to experts. (WAAY)
