Here are the top three stories today in Huntsville:

  1. As an update on a previously reported story, the family attorney of a man killed by a Huntsville police officer has spoken out after the officer's murder verdict was overturned. Family attorney Martin Weinberg said Officer Darby’s retrial will change nothing. “This retrial is simply stalling the inevitable,” said Weinberg. “Mr. Parker wants to see the guy who murdered his brother tried again and convicted again."(WAAY)
  2. Four tornadoes were confirmed over the weekend in north Alabama and southern Tennessee. One person was killed in the storm near Hartselle, just southwest of Huntsville. Damage to infrastructure in areas in the region of Huntsville and Madison has been reported to local authorities and The National Weather Service. More surveys will be conducted in the coming days and more tornadoes may be confirmed. (WAFF)
  3. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle has responded to a Washington Post article saying the Space Headquarters headquarters should stay in its current home of Colorado. According to the mayor, Huntsville has been identified by the government as the best place in the country for a space command headquarters; multiple communities across the country have gone through the heavy vetting process and data continually puts Huntsville on top. “We look forward to Space Command being headquartered where it belongs, the Rocket City,” said Mayor Battle.
