1. While Huntsville is the fastest-growing city in Alabama, there is a housing affordability crisis with low-income residents. According to the Alabama Center for Real Estate, the average house rent in Huntsville is more than $1,500 a month. More residents are living in cars or "couch surfing" than ever before.
