City Of Huntsville: City Of Huntsville, Community Partners To Open Warming Centers

The City of Huntsville is partnering with the Downtown Rescue Mission and Salvation Army to open warming centers during Friday and Saturday’s projected winter weather.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a winter storm warning with a possible 1-4 inches of snow for Madison County from 9 p.m. Friday, March 11, to 9 a.m. Saturday, March 12. A wind advisory with potential 15-25 mph winds and gusts of 30-40 mph will also be in effect from 9 p.m. Friday, March 11, until 12 p.m. Saturday, March 12.

Forecasters predict bitterly cold wind chills in the single digits to teens Friday night and Saturday night. Saturday afternoon high temperatures will only reach 28-32 degrees.

The following warming centers will be open:

Weather permitting, Huntsville Police will be available to transport individuals at no cost to the Downtown Rescue Mission and Salvation Army warming centers. To request a ride from HPD, please call the department’s non-emergency phone number at 256-722-7100.

Huntsville Transit will also provide free rides as long as buses are running. The department will operate on a two-hour delay Saturday, March 12, due to expected winter weather conditions.
