  1. The Annie Merts Center in downtown Huntsville is set to be renovated from an office building into 11 condominium units. The historic building was formerly the home of Huntsville City Schools' central office, and the building's outside will not be changed during the renovation. Some parts of the building that were determined to not be historic have been torn down to make room for five single-family homes. Construction for the incoming condos is expected to begin in the next two months. (WAFF)
  2. The new superintendent for Huntsville City Schools Board of Education spoke with WHNT News 19 in an interview recently to discuss his priorities for the district. Dr. Clarence Sutton said he is ready to create a plan to help achieve the goals set out by the school board, city, and other stakeholders. When asked about lagging test scores in Huntsville, Sutton said it's important to take changes in student assessment into consideration. He said that the rigor has increased for testing standards, and it's important to bring up the rigor in the classroom to match. (WHNT)
  3. Huntsville is set to host the 64th annual Tuskegee Alumni Southeastern Regional Conference on Jul. 20-23. This is the first conference following a four-year hiatus, and the weekend will include activities and workshops.
