Here are the top three stories today in Huntsville:
- As the pandemic declines, Huntsville Hospital will be closing its COVID clinic. With COVID-19 hospitalizations down “dramatically,” Huntsville is set to close its Fever & Flu Clinic on Friday after testing more than 57,000 people there for the virus. The community offers many other testing and treatment options and urges anyone needing those services to contact their primary care physician. All Fever & Flu Clinic staff will be transferred to other jobs in the Huntsville Hospital Health System. (AL.com)
- Huntsville Fire and Rescue (HFR) is recruiting! HFR will be accepting applications for new firefighters from Apr. 24 to Jun. 2 as an initiative to increase the number of firefighters in the department. In order to apply candidates must be at least 18 years old, have no felony convictions, and possess a high school diploma or GED. HFR will host two meet and greets for prospective candidates. The first event will be held on May 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fire Station #1. The second event will be May 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex. (WHNT News 19)
- Christmas Charities Year Round (CCYR) is asking for kids' summer clothing donations. The nonprofit offers multiple services to improve the quality of life for those in need with no-cost programs and says kids' summer clothing is needed right now. Additionally, to raise funds for its noble cause, CCYR is hosting a VIP Independence Day Celebration fundraiser on Saturday, Jun. 24. The event is at Ditto Landing Pavilion from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and costs $30; VIP tickets include VIP parking, covered seating, dinner, optimal fireworks views, and more. (WHNT News 19)
