Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:
- A housing development in Huntsville for low-income seniors has recently expanded, adding 65 rental units. The Stoneridge Villas development now offers 145 apartments for seniors with incomes "at or below 60 percent of the area's median income." The 65 new units are all fully adaptable, including five wheelchair-accessible apartments and two apartments for residents with impaired vision or hearing. (Subscription: AL.com)
- The University of Alabama Huntsville was recently named the overall winner in NASA's 2023 Student Rocket Launch Competition. More than 800 students across the country competed, spending months designing, building, and launching rockets. Teams were also required to land their rockets and complete a payload mission. - Childcare workers will soon be able to apply for a grant-funded quarterly bonus. The grants are funded through COVID relief funds made available through the Department of Human Resources. Starting on Tuesday, Jun. 20, applications will be open for $3,000 grants for full-time childcare workers and $1,500 grants for part-time staff. Bishop George Calvin, overseer of All God's Children Academy in Huntsville, said several of his employees have received the grants in the past and he spoke positively about the impact the grants made for workers.
