Here are the top four stories today in Huntsville:
- Right in time for spring cleaning, the City of Huntsville’s Green Team wants to help you properly dispose of hazardous waste. On Saturday, residents brought old paints, insecticides, lithium batteries, and other hazardous materials to the initiative’s drive-thru event. If you missed it, everyday drop-offs of hazardous materials are accepted at the Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA) Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Plus, the Green Team is always looking for volunteers for clean-up projects in South Huntsville. (Huntsville.gov)
- Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy (FPCTA) is now enrolling students for its 2023 summer camps. FPCTA will welcome students of all ages to enroll in Full-Day and Half-Day programs at Bob Jones High School, the first of which will begin on May 30. With plenty of different programs and themes including “Twisted Fairytales” and “National Treasure,” plus curriculum variations that focus on acting, singing, and stage tech, students will walk away with new foundations for creative expression. (FantastyPlayhouse.org)
- The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has confirmed that Sugar Creek Elementary School did not feed students undercooked poultry. After 26 Limestone County fifth graders contracted symptoms of nausea and vomiting, the school’s cafeteria was investigated and cleared of any unsafe food handling that could have led to any foodborne illnesses, says the ADPH. All children have recovered as of Friday evening, but the cause has not yet been determined. (WAAY)
