Here are the top three stories today in Huntsville:

  1. The Huntsville Board of Education is seeking to hire a superintendent to replace Christie Finley following her retirement. The board is accepting applications through the end of the week and hopes to vote on a new superintendent on Jun. 13. Once the window for applications has closed, the board will narrow the field down to three applicants who will be announced to the public on Jun. 6. From there, the board will hold interviews which the public may attend. (AL.com)
  2. The Huntsville Police Department is looking to hire more officers as the city experiences population growth. Recruiter Kevin Becatti said they're looking to fill multiple positions, but the department is also prioritizing quality and experience in potential new hires. Candidates will need to complete physical assessments as well as a background check and psychological test. From there, candidates will attend a training academy for 19 weeks followed by an additional 14 weeks of training with the Huntsville Police Department. To learn more or apply, click here. (WAAY)
  3. As summer break approaches for school-aged kids, several local options are available to keep children busy and having fun. Rocket City Mom recently released a Summer Activity Guide and some of the top options include a downtown Huntsville scavenger hunt and concerts at Big Spring Park. The Early Works Children's Museum offers daily STEM-based labs for hands-on activities. Free movies are also coming to Toyota Field and several free splash pads are located around the city. (WAAY)
