Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:

  1. The bench trial for Huntsville city councilman Devyn Keith began yesterday, Aug. 22. Keith has pleaded not guilty to four charges of misdemeanor shoplifting. He was arrested in February after being accused of stealing nearly $500 worth of merchandise from three different Huntsville Walmarts. Keith has issued an apology and he has continued to serve as a city councilman since his arrest, although he was removed from his position as the chair of the council finance committee. (AL.com)
  2. Four football players at Columbia High School required treatment for heat-related symptoms during practice on Monday, Aug. 21. Two students received treatment on the field, and two other students were transported to local hospitals. All of the players had non-life-threatening injuries. This incident comes as Columbia High School prepares for its first football game of the season this Friday against Fairview. (WAAY)
  3. Mae Jemison High School recently held a ceremony to celebrate its new welding shop. The new shop will be utilized by students at Mae Jemison as well as students at Columbia, New Century, and Lee High Schools. Huntsville City Schools Career Tech Director Zac McWhorter explained that the program will help meet the growing need for welders in the local area. (WAFF)
