Here are the top three stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Dr. Clarence Sutton, Jr. has been selected by the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education to serve as the district's next superintendent. Sutton has worked as the district's Chief of Staff since 2020 and was recently named the interim superintendent following the retirement of former superintendent Christie Findley. Sutton's priorities for the district include supporting teachers and staff, developing a new district strategic plan, and strengthening communication and community engagement. (WHNT)
  2. In observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day, City of Huntsville municipal offices will be closed on Monday, Jun. 19. Closures include municipal court, animal services, and public transit (Orbit and Access). Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed except for splash pads, which will be open from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. The schedule for residential garbage collection will be delayed for one day next week. (Huntsville, AL)
  3. Downtown Huntsville will soon have a new venue for small-to-medium events. The Blind Tiger will be located on Clinton Avenue and is scheduled to open this fall. Owner Angela Panzica said that she is aiming for an upscale atmosphere that is reminiscent of 1920s-era speakeasies. The venue will feature a full-service bar and a hallway that will lead patrons to the event space. (Huntsville Business Journal)
